Tracking Freedom is the third book by Ken Eagle Feather. His first two books introduced Toltec teachings as given by Don Juan Matus, who was made famous through the writings of Carlos Castenada. Eagle Feather studied with Don Juan in the seventies and eighties.

Tracking Freedom is a valuable manual for personal development. Especially if you are looking for radical, evolutionary transformation. Not since Chogyam Trungpa’s “Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism” has there been such a confrontation with spiritual materialism. This book offers a profound stance on fundamentalism in the New Age, as Eaglefeather challenges that paradigm which makes spirituality a new reality, when all that is really happening is a bigger head trip.

The modern spiritual mind set, the New Age movement, what Castenada calls "Ordinary Reality" is a valuable step towards breaking barriers of perception, but one of the points that Eagle Feather makes is that you need to be very deliberate in using spiritual reality as a firm stepping stone toward breaking all boundaries... towards tracking freedom...

Here is an excerpt from this must read, essential reference guide to fundamentalism in the New Age, a manual for postmodern times.

Tracking Freedom by Ken Eagle Feather

For many years, we have been in the midst of the New Age movement, a great renaissance of thought and experience. The main thrust of it centers on awakening spirituality. New Agers explore past lives, meditation, alternative healing, new relationships with God, just to name a few items on the agenda. Yet, much of the “new” agenda has been already very well established in philosophies around the world....

Like specific metaphysical philosophies, New Age thought in general is far-reaching, and often touches every aspect of a person’s life. Indeed, since it could be considered an umbrella for all metaphysical philosophies, it carries immense power. However, New Age thought is just another social base.

.....The social base is a structure of thinking about reality. It relies on many people achieving a consensus of thought concerning what they think the world is... the social base loses its power when we realize we’re working with an inherited set of assumptions about reality, rather than establishing an ongoing reexamination of our lot as humans...

When you’re outside the social base, and you’re continuing to learn in leaps and bounds, you’re truly connected with guidance from Spirit. That is, Spirit is giving you a way to proceed. But, again here’s the trap. By knowing you’re working with Spirit-guidance, and this is what so many new-agers do, you think you’re really getting on with the program. Plus, you’ll have a lot of people agreeing with you that you’re getting on with the program and agreeing with you that you’re now engaging the world the way it really is. You’ll then rejoice in finding membership within your new social base.

Thus, while the New Age gives you direction, and gives you ways to proceed, it is of finite form and is therefore not the pure art of being connected with infinite potential.

.....Millions of people are being exposed to, and influenced by this type of thinking, be they New Agers or not. When you have that many people forming a new pattern of thought, you have a revolution on your hands. Yet, for the revolutionary transformation of freedom, even this power must be transcended.

Supplanting one template of thought for another does not make a recipe for complete evolution. You need to add the ingredients of self-empowerment, personal responsibility, independent thinking and feeling, non-attachment, fluidity, constantly challenging assumptions about reality, losing self-importance (especially losing self-importance), and everything else that a workable philosophy provides - including leaving the philosophy behind.

Do you see this situation? The bottom line is that fundamentalists turn the work of evolution into acts of self-importance. As members of the flock, fundamentalists find meaning within social understandings.

A person of knowledge finds meaning by matching personal energies with pure potential, and then letting life unfold from there. From this relationship, each and every step of life is a renewal, not a repetition of form. As you can see, being a fundamentalist isn’t as much fun as tracking freedom....

..So, for personal, radical evolution remain true to yourself, and live your life straight from the heart...
